Dynamic Drain Plug Service Bulletin 2022 – 2024 Nissan Rogue and Murano

Written by Greg Iorfida | Jun 27, 2025 8:33:35 PM

The 2022-2024 Nissan Rogue, particularly those with the 1.5L KR15DDT engine, and the 2022-2024 Nissan Murano
models, specifically those with the 3.5L V6 engine have a potential issue with the oil drain plug and plastic oil pan.
The metal insert in the plastic oil pan the drain plug screws into can separate, leading to oil leaks and potential engine
damage. This is not a formal recall, but there are reports and investigations among some owners and mechanics,
including a NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin (TSB).

Here’s a breakdown of the problem:

Stripped Threads: The oil drain plug threads can become damaged or stripped, causing the plug to not tighten securely
or to leak oil. This can happen from over-torqueing the plug, using the wrong size wrench, or repeated removal and reinstallation.

Loose Plug: Sometimes, the plug may simply not be tightened enough, leading to a leak.
Consequences: A loose or stripped oil drain plug can cause oil leaks, potentially leading to low oil levels and engine damage.

If you are experiencing this issue with your Nissan Rogue, here’s what you should do:

1. Inspect the Plug:
Check for visible signs of damage, such as stripped threads or a gap between the plug and the oil pan.

2. Tighten or Replace:
If the plug is loose, tighten it to the correct torque specification, which is typically around 30-37 Nm (22-27 lb-ft) for the 1.5L
engine. Dynamic recommends a 25 lb-ft. / Part DP-038-B. If the threads are stripped, you may need to replace the plug and
potentially the oil pan.

3. Consult a Professional:
Consult a qualified mechanic or Nissan dealership. While Nissan has not issued a specific recall for this issue, it’s important
to address it promptly to prevent potential engine damage.

NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin (TSB):
While not a formal recall, NHTSA has issued a TSB concerning this drain plug issue. The TSB (e.g., MC-10207880-0001)
provides important information for technicians regarding the proper torque specifications for installing the drain plug to avoid over-tightening, which could cause the threaded insert to loosen.

The bulletin emphasizes the importance of always replacing the drain plug gasket with a new one during oil changes.
